WHO WE ARE

Diverse Abilities is an independent, not for profit organisation working together with families to help meet the needs of local people, of all ages, with physical and learning disabilities.

We are dedicated to supporting their needs today and into the future while enabling them to experience a lifetime of opportunities and challenges.

We endeavour to achieve this through tailor-made programmes of support, developed according to the needs of the individual through every transitional stage of their lives and personal development.

We provide the people we support with a little bit of sunshine and ensure they have an enjoyable and fulfilling life.

Our staff work extremely hard to support our people’s needs, and our range of services are full of fun, laughter and joy.

We give families and parents a much-needed break from their responsibilities so they can relax. It also gives siblings, who may feel confused or isolated, the chance to play together, have quality time with their parents and share special times.

WE PROVIDE FOR CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE AGED 0-19

A run a dedicated specialist day school for children, with high level teaching and nursing support ensuring your child gets the education they deserve no matter how complex a disability they may have. A wide range of short term breaks and activities during the weekend, after school and overnight plus practical support in the home and in the local community is also offered. Opportunities are also given to siblings to attend play sessions with their brother or sister while parents can benefit from various information and support services.

WE PROVIDE FOR ADULTS

We enable adults with a disability to live in their own home and live as independently as possible. We also operate a day opportunities service where adults participate in a range of activities and get out into the local community. The aim of the service is to enable adults with a disability to get the most out of life and develop their skills.

ADVICE WHEN REQUIRED

An advice service ensures all the children and adults supported by the charity can be represented when required. The services provides assistance to ensure that any person with a disability or health condition has the right support they are entitled to.

WHAT WE OFFER

Diverse Abilities Plus believes in the unique dignity of each person and their right whenever possible to make their own choices about their life and work situation and the activities in which they engage. We believe that the people we support should dictate the type and range of services that we offer and that the organisation needs to be able to respond flexibly to individuals’ choices. We value and respect equally the people we support and the staff we engage.

HOW WE ARE FUNDED

Our services receive statutory funding from local authorities or education authorities to help fund the people we support, some of the day-to-day running costs, staff and facilities. The charity also applies for grants to support this, which contributes significantly. Fundraising and charitable donations are also vital for Diverse Abilities to provide non-statutory funded supported to children and adults with disabilities, and their families, to expand the services provided and to purchase necessary equipment.
