Barclays Continue to Make a Difference to Langside

Ten employees from Barclays Global Payments team based at Barclays House, Poole, spent a day this month making a difference to Langside School, run by Dorset’s disability charity Diverse Abilities.

Langside is an independent, non-maintained, special day school and provides education to 28 children from the ages of two to 19 who have special educational needs and physical difficulties, often with complex medical conditions.

The ten employees were split into two teams and cleared brambles, ivy and weeds from the school perimeter fence, cleaned fences and repainted them, planted two moveable flowerbeds with sensory plants, painted the school’s garage doors and cleaned the entire rear wall of the school and painted it white to cover a redundant mural.

Barclays is a big supporter of Diverse Abilities and earlier this year a group of volunteers spent many hours, over a six month period, rejuvenating an area at the school and created a sensory garden for the children to enjoy. The organisation is also returning in October to work on the school hall to give it a beach theme makeover.

As part of the day Adrian Faulkner at Brewers in Poole also donated 30 litres of white masonry paint for the project.

Sarah Harrison, Volunteer Recruitment Manager, said: “We can’t thank the Barclays House volunteers enough for the fantastic work that they undertake at Langside School. We would like to say a massive thank you to every single volunteer for their efforts and enthusiasm. A big thank you also goes to Brewers for its donation of paint.”

Emma Paintain, from Barclays, said: “It’s been fantastic to be able to support Langside School by building a new sensory garden and improve their outside space. We’ve worked closely with the school for the last 12 months and we hope that we have made a real difference to them – we are excited and looking forward to our upcoming and future projects to help even further!”

Diverse Abilities is looking to recruit volunteers to work on various projects in the future. Please contact Sarah Harrison on 01202 718266 or email  if you would like to get involved.
