Learning Support Assistant – Langside School

JOB TITLE:   Learning Support Assistant at Langside School

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Teacher / Principal

REPORTS TO:   Teacher / Principal

LOCATION:  Langside School

HOURS: 33.3 per week

OVERALL PURPOSE:  To support the teacher in the delivery of the curriculum and support the pupils with personal care needs. To ensure the safekeeping and welfare of all pupils at all times

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

IN RELATION TO PUPILS / STUDENTS:

  • To provide personal care support to whatever level is appropriate for the pupil /  student
  • To enable and encourage as high a level of pupil / student independence as possible
  • To enable and support pupils and students to use their chosen method of communication at all times
  • To support and enable pupils and students in the classroom to access the curriculum
  • To support pupils and students to access out of school educational experiences
  • To support and assist pupils and students with their feeding programmes
  • To support and assist pupils and students with their physical exercise and physiotherapy programmes
  • To monitor pupils and students for any changes in behaviour or physical appearance which may give cause for concern.

IN RELATION TO STAFF TEAM:

  • Make a positive contribution to Langside’s multi-team approach
  • Support the implementation of programmes initiated by teaching, nursing and therapy staff
  • Attend any training or meetings which are essential in order to effectively and safely carry out duties, but may be additional to contracted hours
  • Be an active participant in the appraisal system
  • Act as a positive role model at all times and specifically in respect of new members of staff.

IN RELATION TO MANAGEMENT AND ORGANISATION:

  •  To actively support the school’s policy of continued personal professional development
  • To report any changes in pupil’s or student’s behaviour or physical appearance which may give cause for concern to the line manager, Senior Nurse or Head Teacher
  • To report all accidents to staff or pupils to line manager or Senior Nurse in line with the school’s policy
  • To ensure all areas and equipment kept as clean as possible
  • To report any broken or damaged equipment or furniture
  • To actively support all Langside School and Diverse Abilities policies and working practices.

Play Opportunities Crew Member (under 18) – Coping with Chaos

JOB TITLE:  Crew Member (under 18)

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Play Opportunities Manager

REPORTS TO:  Play Opportunities Manager

HOURS: Zero hours

LOCATION: Poole / Bournemouth

OVERALL PURPOSE: To support children and young people with additional needs and disabilities and their siblings in their play at a variety of activities and venues.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support children and young people with additional needs and disabilities to help fulfil their social needs through play / activities on a 1:1 basis
  • Play active role as part of staff team
  • Report back to parents about the child/young person’s experience of the activity
  • Discuss and report and concerns about the children or young people with senior staff
  • Adhere to the highest standards of safeguarding procedure by reporting concerns to the senior staff and by being aware of the organisations policies and procedures and attending appropriate training courses
  • Maintain the CHAOS Families centre and other venues in a healthy safe, clean and tidy state by reporting any defects or damage in equipment to the senior staff
  • Replace games and toys after each activity, removing any broken items from general circulation
  • Implement and work to all policies and procedures, which are available to read at the CHAOS families centre office
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, training and development as identified to develop one’s own skills and abilities. Mandatory Training will include: Health & Safety, Safeguarding Awareness, Communication and Safe Handling Awareness, Working in the Community and Disability & Diversity.

Child Support Worker

JOB TITLE:  Child Support Worker

RESPONSIBLE TO:  Team Leader

REPORTS TO:  Team Leader

LOCATION: Poole / Bournemouth

OVERALL PURPOSE:  To ensure the achieve positive outcomes and the continual safety, health, well being of the children and young people using Children’s Team.

MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Take responsibility for a child within th:eir home/in the community, whilst team working for the care and oversight of others
  • Follow each individual child or young person’s care plan and contribute to their continuing development
  • Assist where necessary all children and young people with intimate and personal care e.g. personal hygiene, feminine hygiene and bathing
  • Assist where necessary any child or young person with eating and drinking or maintaining their nutritional needs
  • Support children and young people to fulfil their social and emotional needs through play/activities
  • Encourage acceptable social behaviour from all children at all times
  • Follow guidance of other professionals in providing learning opportunities; follow any schemes / programmes suggested by therapists etc
  • Be innovative in suggesting opportunities for trips, activities, play and learning
  • Accompany children and young people on outings and trips
  • Take responsibility and account for any child or young person’s money as required. e.g.  Booking in the money, taking it on outings
  • Actively promote, by example good attitudes, from members of the public, towards children and young people with special needs
  • Encourage self advocacy whenever possible and help the children and young people in their attempts to communicate their wishes and desires
  • Where children and young people are unable to articulate for themselves, be prepared to speak up for them, promoting the child or young person’s known views and preferences
  • Contribute to regular revision of care plans as required
  • Discuss and report any concerns about the children or young people with senior staff
  • Adhere to the highest standards of Safeguarding Procedures including completing body map forms as required and passing to team leader on shift
  • List all personal belongings on first day and ensure all belongings go home with the child or young person at the end of the visit if staying in Smithers
  • Sort, wash and iron children or young people’s clothes as required
  • Clean children or young person’s wheelchair as required
  • Attend and take part in staff meetings and discussions
  • Play an active role as part of the staff team.

Qualifications – essential / desirable

  • Diploma Level 3 or equivalent – essential (or willing to work towards)
  • Basic numeracy and literacy – essential
  • Full UK, manual driving licence – desirable
