Dorset disability charity, Diverse Abilities Plus, is giving 24 men and women the chance to take part in its five-day survival challenge from Saturday 19 – Wednesday 23 September 2015 for its fourth annual Castaway Challenge.
The fun and challenging event is perfect for individuals, groups of friends or why not nominate someone from your company to take part and experience something totally different? No experience is required, just a sense of humour and a taste for adventure.
The five-day adventure contains fundamental elements of survival, which will challenge participants from dusk until dawn. During the event those involved will learn all there is to know about survival techniques, build a natural team shelter, undertake sea life-raft survival skills training, learn to navigate by sun and stars and take part in search and rescue drills, plus much more!
Before you head out to the secret location on boats, kindly sponsored and supplied by Powerboat Training UK and Poole Boat Hire, you will enjoy a bonding night at The Cottonwood Boutique Hotel with the other members of the challenge.
Sharon Wells, Events Fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said: “The Castaway ‘five-day’ Challenge is a once in a lifetime opportunity and by taking part you will help us to make a difference to the lives of children and adults with learning difficulties and profound physical disabilities. If you fancy a challenge or just want to get away from the daily routines and stresses of life, this is for you! Everyone who joins the boats for this event will make new friends and have a fantastic, fun experience. There are only 24 places and it is recommended to sign up soon to avoid disappointment. It is such a fun event and many people return year after year.”
James Harris has taken part in the event two years running and will be an instructor at the 2015 event. He said: “I absolutely loved doing the challenge and I would recommend it to anyone, whatever their experience in the outdoors is. I can’t wait until this year’s challenge when I’ll be there as an instructor. The event raised in excess of £9,000 in 2014 and I felt really proud that we all raised such an amazing amount of money for such a special charity.”
The Castaway Challenge is suitable for anyone aged 18 years or over. Entry is £50 and minimum sponsorship is £550 per person. Diverse Abilities provide full support to every participant who signs up to the event, to help them achieve their fundraising target.
In addition to the Castaway Challenge, the charity organises many other types of exciting events including running and cycling challenges, tandem skydiving and paragliding, race nights, a Rugby Lunch and great overseas events, providing everyone from all walks of life the opportunity to do something fun and exciting while raising funds for a good cause.
